1 DQSA - Treating the Network as a Distributed Switch
نویسنده
چکیده
The IEEE 802.14 Working Group is charged with defining a standard for the Cable TV environment, the eighth IEEE 802 standard to address what is effectively the same problem. This paper presents a set of criteria, derived from the performance of typical packet/cell switch, for the ideal MAC. It is suggested that the plethora of standards is because the first, IEEE 802.3, did not satisfy the ideal criteria. The DQSA (distributed queue switch architecture) family of MACs: DQLAN, DQRAP, and XDQRAP satisfy this ideal criteria and provide performance over a distributed area that approaches that of a typical localized packet/cell switch. The paper suggests that IEEE 802.14 incorporate the DQSA family in its standard thus providing a single standard that, aside from addressing the cable TV environment, could satisfy the market demands presently met by the existing seven standards.

Shared versus Switched or Reports of the Death of Shared Access are Greatly
Indications are that a shared environment supported by DQSA (Distributed Queue Switch Architecture) is superior to the conventional switch/router environment for most communications. DQSA and its constituent MACs (DQRAP, XDQRAP, DQLAN, PDQRAP, and CDQ), developed at the Illinois Institute of Technology, represent a major development in shared access communications. A DQSA-based MAC (medium acce...
متن کاملA Customer Oriented Approach for Distribution System Reliability Improvement using Optimal Distributed Generation and Switch Placement
The reliability of distribution networks is inherently low due to their radial nature, consequently distribution companies (DisCos) usually seek to improve the system reliability indices with the minimum possible investment cost. This can be known as system-oriented reliability planning (SORP). However, there can exist some customers that are not satisfied by their reliability determined by ado...
متن کاملFully Distributed Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of an Improved Non-Uniform Traveling Wave Structure
Modeling and simulation of communication circuits at high frequency are important challenges ahead in the design and construction of these circuits. Knowing the fact that the lumped element model is not valid at high frequency, distributed analysis is presented based on active and passive transmission lines theory. In this paper, a lossy transmission line model of traveling wave switch (TWSW) i...
متن کاملReliability and Supply Security based Method for Simultaneous Placement of Sectionalizer Switch and DER Units
This paper presents a new and useful methodology for simultaneous allocation of sectionalizer switches and distributed energy resources (DERs) considering both reliability and supply security aspects. The proposed algorithm defines the proper locations of sectionalizer switching devices in radial distribution networks considering the effect of DER units in the presented cost function and other ...
متن کاملDesign of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...
